During Pope Francis' visit to Singapore, he will use two handmade chairs created by Indian-origin carpenter Govindharaj Muthiah. Muthiah, who turned his woodworking passion into a full-time career in 2019, completed the chairs within a month after being contacted by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore. The chairs will be used during interreligious dialogue sessions and feature designs inspired by historical churches.

During Pope Francis' upcoming visit to Singapore, two handmade chairs crafted by an Indian-origin carpenter will take center stage in his interreligious dialogue sessions.
The 44-year-old artisan, Govindharaj Muthiah, who pursued his woodworking passion full-time starting in 2019, was given this prestigious task by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore in a surprise call.
Muthiah drew inspiration from historical churches for the chairs' designs and managed to complete them in a month. The chairs will be used during the Pope's interreligious dialogue sessions.
