In a compelling address at the 17th Goyal Award ceremony held at Kurukshetra University, UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar drew a parallel between Lord Krishna's guidance to Arjuna in the Gita and exemplary teaching. He emphasized that great educators grant students the freedom to think, question, and make decisions independently.
Kumar, serving as the chief guest, praised India's educational system but highlighted the need for reforms to position more Indians at the helm of international companies. Currently, over 10% of CEOs in multinational companies are Indian-educated.
The Goyal Awards, instituted by late Ram S Goyal in 1990, honor exceptional scientists. This year's awards recognized renowned scientists and young researchers alike, with significant contributions from institutions like IISc Bengaluru and IIT Kanpur. Vice-Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva also announced a new Goyal Peace Prize for ISRO chairman S Somnath.
