Francis Ford Coppola is gearing up to unveil his highly anticipated sci-fi film Megalopolis at the New York Film Festival with an advanced screening on September 23, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The event will be held at AMC Lincoln Square Theater.
Prior to the screening, Imax will host a live-streamed Q&A session with Coppola, reaching 66 giant screen theaters across the United States. This advanced showing comes just days before the film's official release on September 27 and follows earlier screenings at the Cannes and Toronto festivals. 'Working with the legendary Francis Ford Coppola has been a complete privilege, and we are proud to have his groundbreaking film take part in the 62nd New York Film Festival,' said Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.
Megalopolis encountered some marketing hurdles when Lionsgate pulled its initial trailer on August 21 due to fake critics' quotes. A new trailer was released with the Imax announcement, free of critic quotes. Coppola has invested part of his fortune into the $120 million project, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The film features Adam Driver as a man driven to build a utopian city, alongside Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, and Giancarlo Esposito. The grandiose scale of Megalopolis, including scenes like Madison Square Garden transformed into a Colosseum with gladiatorial contests, is deemed ideal for Imax screenings.
Lionsgate, known for its longstanding collaboration with Coppola and his American Zoetrope company, has previously distributed several of his works, including Apocalypse Now Final Cut and The Cotton Club Encore. (ANI)
