Actor Chetan Kumar Ahimsa, the founder of Film Industry for Rights and Equality (FIRE), is spearheading a campaign urging the Karnataka government to form a committee to probe sexual and other abuses in the film industry, akin to the Justice Hema Committee in Kerala.
"There is much more sensitivity in the media now, and public support has increased, putting pressure on the power structure," Ahimsa told PTI. He emphasized the need to build on the current momentum to raise awareness about the issue.
Ahimsa, along with FIRE representatives including actor Sruthi Hariharan, submitted a memorandum to Karnataka's chief minister, Siddaramaiah, seeking the formation of a regulatory committee. Siddaramaiah acknowledged receiving the memorandums and assured that the demands would be reviewed.
