This September 15, Karnataka aims to create the world's longest human chain, stretching from Bidar to Chamarajanagar, covering all 31 districts of the state, to commemorate the UN-proclaimed International Day for Democracy.
The massive event will see about 25 lakh people linking arms across 2,500km, reinforcing Karnataka's commitment to democratic principles. Minister for Social Welfare H C Mahadevappa stated that the participants would not only display banners and posters highlighting the values of liberty and freedom of expression but also emphasize fundamental duties like environmental protection.
Additionally, they plan to plant 10 lakh saplings as part of the initiative. Last year, a similar event led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah involved reciting the Preamble of the Constitution and received recognition from the World Books of Records, London. This year's event is organized by various state departments, including Social Welfare, Rural Development, Urban Development, and others.
