Tragic End for Ugandan Olympic Athlete Rebecca Cheptegei

Ugandan Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has died at a Kenyan hospital due to severe burns sustained in an attack by her partner, Dickson Ndiema. The incident occurred during an argument over land. Both were treated at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital; however, Cheptegei succumbed to her injuries.

Ugandan Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has tragically passed away at a Kenyan hospital. She was being treated for severe burns covering 80% of her body, following a brutal attack by her partner.

A hospital spokesperson, Owen Menach, confirmed her death on Thursday. Cheptegei had been receiving treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret city.

Trans Nzoia County Police Commander, Jeremiah ole Kosiom, reported that Cheptegei's partner, Dickson Ndiema, purchased petrol, doused her with it, and set her alight during a disagreement on Sunday. Ndiema also suffered burns and was receiving treatment at the same hospital.

According to her parents, Cheptegei had bought land in Trans Nzoia to be near the county's numerous athletic training centers.

A local chief's report indicates that the couple was heard fighting over the land before the fire broke out.
