Pakistan Customs authorities have thwarted an ambitious smuggling operation, confiscating 15,465 mobile phones, primarily Android devices, valued at PKR 446 million. The phones were being transported from China into Pakistan via the Khunjerab Pass, with officials confiscating additional high-value items and filing a smuggling case, Dawn reported.

According to a Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) report, Customs officers at Sost Dry Port, alerted by intelligence, identified a truck, GLTE 1257, loaded with smuggled goods. The truck entered Pakistan from China and was abandoned near Dehi on the Karakoram Highway. Locals indicated the driver cited mechanical issues before deserting the vehicle. The truck was secured at Sost Dry Port.

A public notice was issued, urging the unidentified importer to present necessary documentation within 15 days. With no response, an inspection discovered 15,465 mobile phones, including 8,365 smartphones (iPhone, Oppo, Vivo, One-Plus) and 7,100 bar phones. Legal proceedings are ongoing, Dawn reported.
