Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a historic visit to Brunei, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Southeast Asian nation. Modi, keen to bolster commercial and cultural links, was warmly received by Crown Prince His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah at the airport, where he was accorded a guard of honour.
During his visit, Modi is set to meet with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other members of the royal family, aiming to advance the historical relationship between the nations. The visit comes as India and Brunei celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations, promising to strengthen cooperation in sectors such as defence, trade, energy, and cultural exchanges.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence in deepening ties with Brunei and advancing India's strategic partnership with Singapore. Modi's itinerary includes meetings with key Singaporean leaders and business community members to further India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific Vision. The visit underscores India’s commitment to bolstering partnerships in the ASEAN region.
