Gilliland, who hailed from Illinois and was a 1984 Northwestern University graduate, made significant contributions to television comedy, writing for shows like 'Roseanne,' 'The Wonder Years,' and 'That '70s Show.'

Gilliland's career began with 'Who's the Boss?' and expanded to include projects like 'Living Dolls,' 'Boys,' and 'Boogie Howser, M.D.' His latest endeavor was the podcast 'The Cinnamon Bear: A Holiday Adventure.' He received accolades throughout his career, including a WGA Award nomination in 1994 for 'Roseanne' and a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2019 for 'The Was Was? Show.'
