Senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Monday called on party leaders to refrain from criticizing protestors, especially those from the medical fraternity and civil society, amid rising street protests in West Bengal following the tragic rape and murder of a woman doctor at a state-run hospital.

Issuing a statement on his official X handle, Banerjee, the party's national general secretary, stressed the importance of humility and sympathy among public representatives. ''I urge everyone in @AITCofficial not to speak ill of anyone from the medical fraternity or civil society,'' the Diamond Harbour MP stated.

Highlighting West Bengal's distinction from BJP-ruled states, he added, ''Everyone has the right to protest and express themselves. We have wholeheartedly fought against the bulldozer model and oppression tactics in politics.'' Banerjee also underscored the need for unity to ensure justice and enact an anti-rape time-bound law at both state and union levels.
