After spending over two decades at Manchester United, Scott McTominay has transferred to Napoli in a 30 million euros deal. McTominay, who joined United's youth program at age five, has been one of the club's standout academy graduates. He made 253 appearances and scored 29 goals during his seven years in the first team.

United coach Erik ten Hag voiced his concerns over the English Premier League rules, which he believes encourage the sale of homegrown players. 'I wouldn't prefer to lose him because he's Manchester United in everything,' Ten Hag lamented. 'We have to discuss the rules. It's not right that homegrown and academy players bring more value.'

Despite the transfer, ten Hag acknowledged that it was a mutually beneficial deal. At Napoli, McTominay will play under Antonio Conte, who recently signed Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea. Napoli also added another Scottish talent, Billy Gilmour from Brighton.
