Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the State Sports Academy (SSA) and Bihar Sports University (BSU) in Rajgir, Nalanda district, on National Sports Day. This state-of-the-art facility spans 90 acres and cost approximately Rs 750 crore. It features an international cricket stadium and the state's first astro-turf hockey stadium along with facilities for more than 20 types of indoor and outdoor sports.

The inauguration included an exhibition match between India's women hockey teams and was attended by top officials including Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary. The Asian Hockey Federation announced that SSA would host the Women's Asian Champions Trophy from November 11 to November 20, 2024.

BSU, approved in July 2021, will offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in sports-related disciplines and will house three centers of excellence in wrestling, weightlifting, and athletics. The state government also honored nine international athletes from Bihar during the event.
