Researchers from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, and SP Jain Institute of Management & Research have published a joint report, concluding that a user's skill significantly outweighs chance in determining success in fantasy sports contests.

Titled 'Decision Support System for Policy-Making: Quantifying Skill and Chance in Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS)', this study adopts a data-driven approach to objectively evaluate whether a game is driven by skill or luck. This meticulous research, which analyzed 2,951 matches and 160,000 contests, revealed that skill factors like past performance, experience, and recent participation play a crucial role in a player's success.

The study proposes an integrated decision support framework to help policymakers leverage a scientific approach in the ongoing debate about skill versus chance in online games. Such frameworks are essential to formulating effective regulations for emerging technologies and online gaming sectors in India, as noted by Dr. U. Dinesh Kumar, a key investigator in the study.
