On Wednesday, the Competition Commission of India approved the merger between the media assets of Reliance Industries and The Walt Disney Co. This strategic move creates India's largest media empire, valued at over Rs 70,000 crore.

The deal, announced six months back, faced scrutiny by the anti-trust regulator. Approval was granted after modifications were proposed to the original transaction structure. The regulator confirmed the merger through a post on X, noting the necessary compliance with voluntary modifications.

Under the new deal, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and its affiliates will own 63.16% of the entity. The Walt Disney Company will hold the remaining 36.84% stake. Nita Ambani will lead the joint venture, and former Disney executive Uday Shankar will be the Vice Chairperson.
