Kathy Giles-Diaz Appointed New US Consul General in Kolkata
Kathy Giles-Diaz has been appointed as the new US Consul General in Kolkata, succeeding Melinda Pavek. She will be responsible for overseeing US diplomatic efforts in the Kolkata consular district, which includes West Bengal, Bihar, and northeastern states of India. Giles-Diaz’s career includes roles in various diplomatic and media positions.

Kathy Giles-Diaz has officially taken over as the US Consul General in Kolkata, replacing Melinda Pavek, announced the US Consulate on Friday.
As consul general, Giles-Diaz will lead US diplomatic efforts and strengthen US-India relations across the Kolkata consular district, which encompasses West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sikkim, and the seven northeastern states.
''I am deeply honoured to represent the United States in East and Northeast India. I look forward to meeting people and communities across the 11 states of the Kolkata Consular District and building upon the strong foundation of the US-India partnership,'' stated Giles-Diaz.
Before assuming this role, she served as the public affairs advisor at the US Mission to NATO in Brussels, Belgium. Her illustrious career includes positions such as director of the state department's international media office and public affairs officer at the US Embassy in Riga, Latvia, among others.
Previously, Giles-Diaz worked as a television news producer covering significant beats like the White House and the state department. She also managed an international student exchange programme.
Giles-Diaz holds a Bachelor's Degree in biology and Japanese studies from Wellesley College and a Master's degree in public administration and environmental science from Indiana University.
