Indian Coast Guard Seizes 450 Kgs of Endangered Sea Cucumbers Worth Rs 1.80 Crore in Rameswaram

The Indian Coast Guard seized over 450 kgs of endangered sea cucumbers worth Rs 1.80 crore during a raid in Rameswaram. Acting on specific inputs, officials intercepted a boat whose occupants fled on reaching the shore. The boat was confiscated, this marks the fifth such incident in 2024.

In a significant operation, the Indian Coast Guard seized more than 450 kgs of endangered sea cucumbers worth Rs 1.80 crore during a raid conducted in Rameswaram on Wednesday.

Based on specific inputs, Coast Guard personnel intercepted a boat near Mandapam, Rameswaram. The occupants abandoned the vessel upon spotting the officials and fled after reaching the shore.

The seized sea cucumbers are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, and this marks the fifth such case off the Tamil Nadu coast in 2024, according to an official release. The boat used in the illegal activity has also been confiscated.
