Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, Rakesh Pal, passed away at a hospital in Chennai on Sunday after suffering cardiac arrest. He was 59. Pal, who took charge as the 25th chief of the Indian Coast Guard on July 19 last year, significantly enhanced the force's operational capabilities.
The officer was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital (RGGH) after experiencing chest pain. He was to attend an ICG event alongside Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who expressed deep sorrow over Pal's demise. Singh described him as an able and committed officer who made substantial contributions to India's maritime security. He visited the hospital to pay his respects to Pal.
Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Pal was known for his passion for music and sports. He had a distinguished career spanning over 34 years, holding several key positions and commanding various Indian Coast Guard ships and bases. His tenure saw major operations, including significant drug seizures. Pal's death is a significant loss to the Coast Guard and the nation.
