Several Hindu organisations on Sunday urged the central government to take action to protect Hindus in Bangladesh, where a volatile situation has emerged following the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina government.
The demand came from members of organisations such as Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, Manav Seva Pratisthan, Vajra Dal, Yog Vedant Samiti, and others, who gathered in Dadar, Mumbai. They raised slogans against the alleged atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh and called for urgent intervention by the Union government.
Ranjeet Savarkar, working president of Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, stressed the need for swift action, suggesting that the Hindu-majority region in Bangladesh be merged with India. Abhay Vartak of Sanatan Sanstha called for public demonstrations to demand protection for Hindus in Bangladesh. The groups have also signed a memorandum to be submitted to the government, urging facilitation of shelter for Hindus in India through the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). The recent unrest has seen vandalism of Hindu temples and businesses, and the killing of two Hindu leaders associated with Sheikh Hasina's Awami League Party.
