Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his significant role in ensuring the inclusion of the Ahom dynasty's 600-year-old mound-burial system, known as 'Moidams', in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Sarma also extended his thanks to Union Culture Minister Gajendra Shekhawat, who informed him of the news during a press conference.
The unique Moidams, pyramid-like structures, served as burial mounds for the Tai-Ahom dynasty that ruled Assam from 1228 to 1826. Sarma highlighted this inclusion as a great honor for Assam and India, stressing the historical significance of the Charaideo Moidam now being a UNESCO Heritage site.
