Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit planted a sapling at the Raj Bhawan on Monday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, marking India's victory over Pakistan in the 1999 conflict.

Speaking at the event, Purohit highlighted that the campaign aligns with the ongoing 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, which promotes tree plantation. This campaign aims to plant 140 crore trees across the country, supporting environmental preservation.

Soil for the planting was brought from the Bajrang post by the JKSC Chandigarh chapter, a site of historical significance in the Kargil War. The series of activities to honor the Kargil War anniversary include tree plantation drives in schools and colleges in Chandigarh.
