LAHORE, PAKISTAN—In a significant cultural exchange, 455 Sikh pilgrims from India arrived in Lahore on Friday to participate in the annual festivities commemorating Maharaja Ranjit Singh's death anniversary. The group was received warmly at the Wagah Border by Punjab's first Sikh minister, Ramesh Singh Arora, and officials of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC).
Ghulam Muhayuddin, an official from the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), assured that the visiting pilgrims would be provided with foolproof security and comfortable accommodation during their 10-day sojourn in the Punjab province. "Some 455 Indian Sikh yatrees (pilgrims) arrived via Wagah Border on Friday to attend Maharaja Ranjit Singh's death anniversary," he told PTI.
Upon arrival, the group departed for Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hassan Abdaal, Rawalpindi, before traveling to Nankana Sahib and several other historical gurdwaras. The main ceremony will take place at Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore on June 29.
