Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday joined the state-level celebration of the International Day of Yoga, performing various 'asanas' with participants at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Bambolim. The event, themed 'Yoga for Self and Society', was organized by the Union Ministry of AYUSH, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, National AYUSH Mission, and Directorate of Health Services, Goa.

The programme, which started promptly at 6.30 am and lasted nearly two hours, saw Sawant engage in yoga exercises alongside community members. 'It is overwhelming to see how the entire world is celebrating yoga today, collectively gathering at various places,' said Sawant. 'The state-level function was held to mark the day, originally promoted by the Narendra Modi-led government.'

Sawant highlighted the widespread participation across the state, noting significant involvement from schools and panchayats. He also reassured that this initiative aligns with the United Nations General Assembly's resolution from December 2014 to observe June 21 annually as the International Day of Yoga, following a proposal by Prime Minister Modi.
