In a delightful twist at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, Jennifer Lawrence brought humor to the ceremony as she playfully mouthed to a camera, "If I don't win, I'm leaving," just before the announcement of the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy category. The moment, filled with levity, occurred as Lawrence's name was called among the six nominees.
The spotlight, however, shifted to Emma Stone, who was declared the winner moments after Lawrence's amusing threat. Rather than displaying disappointment, the 33-year-old Lawrence threw her hands in the air and exclaimed, "Mother!" as she joyously joined the chorus of cheers for her friend Stone, 35, who secured the Golden Globe for her outstanding performance in Poor Things.
The category also featured talented nominees, including Fantasia Barrino for The Color Purple, Natalie Portman for May December, Alma Pöysti for Fallen Leaves, and Margot Robbie for Barbie.
Stone and Lawrence's friendship, rooted in their connection through Woody Harrelson, was highlighted at the ceremony. The duo, who became close friends after Harrelson worked with both actresses, share a bond that traces back to Stone's text to Lawrence in 2016, where she humorously revealed obtaining Lawrence's number from Harrelson. The camaraderie between the two actresses added a heartwarming touch to the event.
Emma Stone, in addition to her victory for Poor Things, received another nomination for her role in the Showtime television series The Curse. These nominations marked Stone's seventh and eighth acting nods at the Golden Globes. Notably, she previously clinched a Golden Globe in 2018 for her performance in La La Land, the same year she secured the Best Actress award at the Academy Awards.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence, a three-time Golden Globe awardee for her exceptional performances in Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Joy, celebrated her sixth career nomination at the prestigious event.
The 2024 Golden Globes not only witnessed outstanding performances but also showcased the enduring friendship between Lawrence and Stone, proving that even in the world of glitz and glamour, genuine connections and good humor shine through.
