Netflix is set to release the Indian Hindi-language social comedy-drama, "Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery," on May 19, 2023. The film, directed by Yashowardhan Mishra, stars Sanya Malhotra as a cop tasked with finding two missing jackfruits. Inspired by true events, the story is set in a fictional town called Moba.

The film also features Vijay Raaz, Anant Joshi, Rajpal Yadav, and Neha Saraf in pivotal roles. The story revolves around the theft of two prized jackfruits from a local politician's garden and the young, ambitious police officer who must solve the mystery.

Kathal follows a dedicated police officer who is tasked by a powerful politician to recover two stolen kathals from his personal garden. The officer takes the case seriously, employing all available resources to locate the stolen items, despite facing various challenges. The film highlights the importance of duty, responsibility, and the role of law enforcement agencies in maintaining order in society. Ultimately, the police officer's persistence pays off, and he successfully recovers the kathals, upholding justice in the society.

The film satirizes the news media, political corruption, and blind faith, and has the potential to be a refreshing diversion from the usual Bollywood potboilers. Malhotra, who has previously starred in Netflix's "Pagglait" and "Meenakshi Sundereshwar," is making a name for herself in unconventional genre films. Raaz, on the other hand, is one of Hindi cinema's most respected character actors.

Kathal was produced by Sikhya Entertainment and Balaji Telefilms Ltd. and co-produced by Guneet Monga, the recent Oscar-winner for the documentary short "The Elephant Whisperers," the film also features Rajpal Yadav, Neha Saraf, Brijendra Kala, and Anantvijay Joshi in key roles.

Director Mishra says that "Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery" is an extremely special film for him, as it marks his debut as a feature director, and he believes that it will strike a chord with audiences across the country.

Mishra says, “Kathal- A Jackfruit Mystery is an extremely special film for me, not just because it marks my debut as a feature director but also because this is a story that will strike a chord with audiences across the country.”
