HBO's acclaimed limited series, The White Lotus, has been renewed for Season 3. Created by Mike White, the dark comedy-drama explores the psychosocial dysfunctions of guests and employees at the fictional White Lotus resort chain.
Premiering in July 2021 and concluding the second season in December 2022, the show is set in an attractive location and follows vacationers as they try to relax in paradise. But with each passing day, a darker complexity emerges as the show delves into the hidden lives and secrets of the seemingly perfect travelers and cheerful hotel employees.
The White Lotus Season 3 will bring more of the same dark humor and suspenseful drama that will keep viewers further interested. Creator Mike White has teased another intriguing storyline and complex characters that will keep fans on the edge of their seats.
The first season of the series explored the theme of money, while the second season was about sex. According to White, the third season will focus on "death and Eastern religion and spirituality."
“The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex. I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus,” Mike White said in a clip attached at the end of the Season 2 finale.
While production for The White Lotus Season 3 has not yet begun, Variety recently reported that the show's team is heading to Thailand. As the first two seasons were shot at Four Seasons resorts in Hawaii and Italy, respectively, the upcoming season will take place at one of the luxury hotel giant's four properties in Thailand, which are located in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, and the Golden Triangle.
As for the cast, an official The White Lotus Season 3 lineup has yet to be revealed. However, fans can expect some characters from previous seasons to return. Jennifer Coolidge, who played Tanya McQuoid-Hunt, may make a comeback via flashbacks, following her fate in the Season 2 finale.
Michael Imperioli's character, Dominic Di Grosso, may return to the series, and Mike White has hinted on it.
At the end of Season 2, Mike White told to Esquire. "Who knows, maybe there'll be another White Lotus season where Dominic comes with his wife and they patch it all up!"
He continued: "I don't want to think about it too much. Because the idea of that makes me so happy. I don't want to be disappointed… I would want nothing more than that. I just loved working with Mike [Imperioli] so much."
He also hinted at a possible continuation of Jon Gries' Greg Hunt and Haley Lu Richardson's Portia in The White Lotus Season 3.
"I think as far as like, what happens to Greg and the conspiracy of Tanya's death, it's possible that I think Portia is scared enough to just leave it alone," White told Esquire. "But maybe you'll have to wait to find out what happens."
Regarding Season 1 characters, Connie Britton, who played CEO Nicole Mossbacher, did not return for Season 2 due to casting issues, but has expressed interest in returning for a potential spin-off of the show.
"[White] wanted me to be in the second season, and there was an idea that I loved for the character," said Britton. "A piece of casting didn't work in the second season and we're hoping to [do] that in the third season. I would love to see a spin-off on every character in that show."
We will come up with more on The White Lotus Season 3 as soon as we get any updates. Stay tuned!
