Kung Fu Panda 4: Current status, plot, cast & what to expect

Kung Fu Panda 4 is one of the most awaited animated films. The first three movies of media franchise were applauded by audiences worldwide. The film series is mainly popular in China as an outstanding Western emulation of the wuxia film genre. Fans have been awaiting Kung Fu Panda 4 for the past five years. But will the franchise owner DreamWorks Animation release the fourth movie?

The CEO of DreamWorks Animation, Jeffrey Katzenberg has given fans hope that there will be a fourth film in the Kung Fu Panda franchise, and it is also possible that the series would see three more installments after Kung Fu Panda 3, making it a six-film series.

Looking back, on January 13, 2016, co-director of Kung Fu Panda 3, Jennifer Yuh Nelson said, "It’s one at a time. We want to make this a perfect jewel, and then we’ll see what happens after that," while Collider asked her about the possibility of a fourth film.

 Co-director Alessandro Carloni said, "With the sequels, we don’t want to try to have them feel open-ended. We want it to feel like a completed journey, and we feel this movie does. And then, if a fantastic story presents itself, great.”

On August 2, 2018, when asked about any updates on Kung Fu Panda 4, Co-director Jennifer Yuh Nelson replied that she did not know as she had always seen the series as a trilogy, but that she was open to the idea of a fourth installment as long as it focused on Po.

According to several reports, although the movie is yet to be declared, the production for Kung Fu Panda 4 has started but has been hampered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore we assume that DreamWorks Animation had secretly renewed the fourth movie. However, they have not yet officially confirmed Kung Fu Panda 4. So the question arises why the makers are still tight-lipped about it? Why won’t they provide any updates on the productions?

If Kung Fu Panda 4 finally happens, it is likely to focus on the story of Po reuniting with his biological father and his family. In the third film, Po entered the Panda village and reunited with his dad and other pandas. Viewers also saw Po teaching his son the art of Kung Fu and turning him into a Kung Fu master.

Industry insiders believe Kai will not return as the main villain in Kung Fu Panda 4, since Po blasted Kai into oblivion by overloading his chi and thereby freeing all kung fu masters who were under Kai's control when he took their chi.

Currently, Kung Fu Panda 4 does not have any trailer and official release date.
