Tripura is grappling with a pressing shortage of teachers in its elementary education system, Chief Minister Manik Saha revealed during a recent Assembly session. He noted that the state falls short by 4,187 teachers according to revised norms.

The current requirement stands at 10,391 Under Graduate Teachers (UGTs) and 8,546 Graduate Teachers (GTs). However, only 8,985 UGTs and 5,765 GTs are presently employed, marking a significant shortfall.

In response, the government has recruited 4,656 teachers over the past five years through the Teachers' Recruitment Board of Tripura. Efforts are also underway to enhance educational quality, with the NIPUN state mission focusing on foundational literacy and numeracy, backed by extensive teacher training programs.
