In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which stresses the importance of universal and high-quality Early Childhood Education, the Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education, has launched the Baalpan ki Kavita initiative. This initiative aims to restore and celebrate the rich tradition of Bhartiya rhymes and poems that are relevant to young children’s learning. The primary goal is to create a compendium of nursery rhymes and poems in all Indian languages (Bhartiya Bhasha), including English, to provide children with a joyful and relatable educational experience that is rooted in the Indian cultural context.
The Baalpan ki Kavita initiative seeks to improve learning outcomes at the foundational stage by introducing young learners to the world around them through poems and rhymes in their mother tongue. By incorporating culturally significant rhymes and poems, the initiative aims to nurture a deeper connection between children and their heritage while enhancing their language skills.
Invitation for Participation
To further this vision, the DoSE&L, in collaboration with MyGov, has launched a nationwide competition inviting contributions to the Baalpan ki Kavita initiative. Participants are encouraged to submit existing poems and rhymes that are popular in Indian folklore, along with the name of the author.
