The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has condemned the shocking ragging incident at a government nursing college in Kerala, labeling it 'morally reprehensible.' In response, the Commission has demanded an action report from the state's police chief.
Disturbing visuals revealed the brutal hazing of a junior student at a Kottayam nursing college, showing him tied to a cot and repeatedly pierced with a compass. The NHRC described these actions as a severe violation of human rights, having been notified through a complaint.
The complaint alleges that the accused from Wayanad, Malappuram, and Kottayam coerced juniors into transferring money online and subjected them to physical and mental abuse. The Commission urges state authorities for swift action under Section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.
