The MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Odisha's Ganjam district has suspended five fourth-year MBBS students from hostel accommodations for six months following allegations of ragging, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
The suspension was enacted based on the recommendations from the anti-ragging committee, following complaints by junior students and their parents to the National Medical Council (NMC). The council subsequently instructed the college to investigate and take appropriate action.
Despite initially finding no evidence of ragging, a new complaint led to this decisive action, with the dean affirming that the institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy on ragging. Law enforcement is also involved to ensure adherence to regulations.
