In a bid to bolster the state's healthcare system, the Himachal Pradesh government has announced that doctors pursuing postgraduate studies will now receive their full salaries. This significant policy shift was confirmed by a state government spokesperson on Friday.
Previously, doctors on study leave were subjected to a substantial pay cut, receiving only 40 per cent of their salary. The financial disincentive deterred many medical professionals from furthering their education. However, a directive from Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has changed this, ensuring PG, SRship, and DM-level education is considered 'on duty'.
This move is expected to improve patient care and foster a more robust healthcare system statewide, as emphasized by Sukhu. The decision follows a meeting with the Himachal Medical Officers' Association, addressing concerns over the previous salary policy that discouraged doctors from continuous learning.
