China Eastern Airlines is gearing up to operate flights connecting Bangladesh's Chittagong with Kunming. This initiative aims to enable easier access for Bangladeshis seeking medical treatment at dedicated Chinese hospitals. The high costs of air travel have previously been a significant barrier, but the new service is expected to alleviate this, facilitating more efficient and affordable healthcare access.
According to Nazmul Islam, Bangladesh's Ambassador to China, the planned flights are a crucial step towards reducing travel expenses and time, allowing more Bangladeshis to access Kunming's healthcare amenities. The Chinese city has set aside specific hospital floors for Bangladeshi patients, offering them treatment at the same fee rates as locals.
Additionally, the civil aviation authorities in Dhaka are working to lower airfare for flights between Dhaka and Kunming. Concurrently, China has pledged to expand healthcare facilities for Bangladeshis. Following a recent visit by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh secured USD 2.1 billion in Chinese investments, loans, and grants aimed at bolstering its economic and industrial sectors.
