The Himachal Pradesh government has initiated a significant step in education reform by directing all public degree and Sanskrit colleges to adopt government schools in their vicinity. This move is intended to facilitate the sharing of human and infrastructure resources, alongside the expertise of the colleges with these schools.

This decision follows closely on the heels of a scheme launched by the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government that encouraged ministers, MPs, MLAs, government officers, civil society members, and philanthropists to adopt schools. The aim is to bolster educational resources and guidance across the state.

Higher Education Director Amarjit Sharma, in a letter issued on Tuesday, highlighted that the colleges have been tasked to adopt multiple schools. Colleges are encouraged to engage in various educational activities, including career counseling and promoting awareness against drugs, to support the development of students and staff at the adopted schools.
