Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday criticized Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar for suggesting that studying abroad is a 'new disease' among students. Ramesh countered, saying the issue reflects a 'diseased education system' deteriorating due to political interference.
Speaking in Sikar, Rajasthan, Vice President Dhankhar referred to studying abroad as a 'forex drain and brain drain,' estimating a future where 13 lakh students pursue education overseas and cause a $6 billion hit to India's foreign exchange reserves.
Ramesh rebutted on social media, claiming students are driven abroad due to quality and opportunity gaps in Indian education. He emphasized that the current education scenario forces students to leave, rather than representing a new trend.
