Adolescent girls from disadvantaged backgrounds in Jharkhand are benefiting from a government initiative designed to support their educational aspirations, according to official reports.

Implemented by the Hemant Soren administration, the Savitribai Phule Kishori Samriddhi Yojana (SPKSY) aims to curb early marriages, lower dropout rates, and encourage girls to pursue higher education. The scheme provides Rs 40,000 in scholarships, aiding numerous families like that of Laxman Hajam, whose daughter dreams of becoming a doctor.

The initiative has reached around 9 lakh beneficiaries in 2023-24 and was recently highlighted in an outreach programme by Chief Minister Soren, which emphasized extending benefits to all daughters in a family.
