India has launched a new initiative to award fifty Quad scholarships, valued at USD 500,000, to students from the Indo-Pacific region. The scholarships aim to facilitate these students in pursuing four-year undergraduate engineering programs at Government of India-funded technical institutions.
This announcement came from the Wilmington Declaration, issued after the fourth in-person Quad Summit, hosted by President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware. The summit was attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The Quad partnership emphasizes building deep ties among people and partners through this fellowship.
The declaration also noted the Quad governments' welcome of the second cohort of Quad Fellows via the Institute of International Education. It was revealed that students from ASEAN countries will be included for the first time, backed by the Japanese government. The program also received generous support from private sector partners like Google, the Pratt Foundation, and Western Digital.
