Amid tension and protest, West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose faced black flags from the Trinamool Congress students' wing during a Calcutta University award ceremony. Undeterred by opposition, the event progressed under tight security on Thursday.
Responding to the protests, Governor Bose emphasized the right to protest, while CU officiating Vice Chancellor Shanta Dutta clarified that those protesting were not university students, but outsiders barred from campus entry. She stressed the ceremony's importance for students needing official documents for careers.
The TMCP supporters protested the alleged irregular organization of the ceremony, citing the absence of a permanent Vice Chancellor. Despite challenges, the governor, as the university's ex-officio Chancellor, presided over the event, while police ensured safety at the College Street campus.
