Assam Cabinet Sanctions Land for Railway, Approves Teacher Salaries and Other Key Initiatives

The Assam cabinet has approved several significant measures, including sanctioning land for railway track doubling in the Azara-Kamakhya section, validating salaries for teachers in Karbi Anglong, re-engaging part-time faculty in engineering colleges, and granting funds for student bicycles. The decisions aim to enhance infrastructure, education, and employment in the region.

The Assam cabinet has green-lit key initiatives aiming to boost infrastructure and education in the state. Among the measures sanctioned is the allocation of eight bighas of land to the Railway ministry for doubling tracks in the Azara-Kamakhya section via Goalpara.

State minister Jayanta Malla Baruah announced that the cabinet also approved salary payments for over 130 teachers in Karbi Anglong. Additionally, the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma validated past appointments made without prior state approval, subject to basic criteria verification by the Hills Area Department.

Moreover, the cabinet re-engaged 451 part-time faculty members in various engineering colleges and polytechnics against regular vacant posts, and sanctioned funds for three polytechnic institutions under construction. For the academic year 2024-25, it also approved Rs 148.55 crore for procuring bicycles for Class 9 students in secondary schools, aimed at reducing dropout rates.
