Resignation and Protests Rock IIT Guwahati Over Student's Death

Amid escalating student protests at IIT Guwahati, Dean of Academic Affairs K V Krishna has tendered his resignation. The protests erupted following the tragic death of a third-year Computer Science student, reportedly by suicide.

The student, originally from Uttar Pradesh, was found in his hostel, prompting calls for enhanced mental health services. According to the protesting students, the victim was depressed after facing issues related to failed attendance, despite submitting medical certificates.

IITG Director Devendra Jalihal, who recently assumed his role, engaged in lengthy discussions with the students, committing to address their concerns and enhance student well-being. The administration is considering the resignation while urging students to prioritize their education amid ongoing tensions.
