Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has called on the Uttar Pradesh government to take an honest and fair stand in the ongoing teacher recruitment controversy, insisting that reserved category candidates must not face any injustice.

On Monday, the Supreme Court stayed an Allahabad High Court order. This order had mandated the state to create a new selection list for 69,000 assistant teachers, citing issues with the reservation formula. The apex court's decision came after a plea was filed by Ravi Kumar Saxena and 51 others.

The Allahabad High Court had earlier directed the state government to prepare a new selection list for the teachers' appointments, a decision challenged by multiple special appeals. Mayawati emphasized that reserved category candidates must receive their constitutional rights.
