Tamil Nadu's Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister N Kayalvizhi Selvaraj on Monday dismissed Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami's accusations of insufficient non-vegetarian food in department-run hostels as baseless and diversionary.

The Minister assured that quality meals are distributed in accordance with student strength, with an app available for verification. Highlighting that two central kitchens serve 19 hostels in Chennai, she stated that food for the Mylapore hostel is supplied from Saidapet's MC Raja Hostel campus.

Furthermore, Rs 100 crore has been allocated for the renovation and maintenance of 520 selected hostels, including Mylapore. Efforts are also underway to install bio-metric devices and CCTV cameras across 1,000+ hostels. New hostel buildings are being constructed in various cities, including Chennai, at significant investments.
