An artificial intelligence (AI) based start-up founded by two innovators from Bengaluru is revolutionizing marking for teachers across secondary schools in the UK.
sAInaptic, co-founded by data scientists Dr Rajeshwari Iyer and Kavitha Ravindran, has raised nearly GBP 1 million from investors since its inception as a side project.
Their app employs natural language processing and machine learning to evaluate student answers and deliver personalized feedback. Currently preparing for another funding round, sAInaptic aims to enhance educational efficiency.
"Teachers can spend around one day a week marking and giving feedback to students' work. Our app can accurately mark students' answers and provide instant feedback, allowing teachers to spend more time in the classroom," stated Iyer, a PhD in Computational Neuroscience from Imperial College, London.
The co-founders, both in their early 40s, estimate their app could save teachers hundreds of hours annually, already being implemented in over 50 UK secondary schools and gaining global interest.
sAInaptic participated in Venture Trek, hosted by Imperial Enterprise Lab, to gain international traction. Ben Mumby-Croft, Imperial College London's Director of Entrepreneurship, praised the impact of such alumni-led ventures.
With extensive backgrounds in data science, computational modeling, and secondary education, Iyer and Ravindran continue to drive sAInaptic's growth, enhancing marking efficiency and academic resource allocation.
sAInaptic emphasizes usability with a user-friendly interface, enabling quick setup and deployment. The company is now preparing to introduce the IGCSE and expand into vocational qualifications.
Imperial College London boasts a robust Enterprise Lab supporting over 2,000 students annually, fostering promising start-ups with a notable three-year survival rate of 72 percent.
