The Patna district administration has ordered the closure of 76 government schools in rural areas until August 31, as the Ganga's water level surpasses the danger mark in the state capital. The decision prioritizes the safety of students and teachers.
A circular issued by District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh on Tuesday stated, 'A total of 76 government schools in eight blocks of Patna district will remain closed until August 31 due to the rising trend of water levels in the Ganga river.' The Bihar government had recently given District Magistrates the authority to close schools if flood conditions emerged in their jurisdictions.
This order follows an incident in which a government school teacher was swept away by strong currents in the Ganga near Patna.
