The Telangana government is poised to establish a skill university to boost employment and livelihood opportunities for the youth. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy chaired a meeting on the proposed university, instructing officials to introduce the relevant bill in the upcoming budget session of the Legislative Assembly starting next week.
Slated to function on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the university will offer courses in 17 areas. The courses will range in duration from three-four year degrees to one-year diplomas and three-month certificate programs. Initially, programs will be available in sectors including pharma, construction, banking and financial services, e-commerce and logistics, retail, animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics.
Starting with an intake of 2,000 students in its first year, the university aims to eventually enroll 20,000 students annually. The state's industries department has drafted the proposal after reviewing similar institutions in Delhi and Haryana. The university will be named 'Telangana skills university,' and a final draft incorporating today's meeting decisions will be prepared.
