Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, has been appointed as the new non-executive chairman of Vodafone Idea. This was confirmed in a company filing released on Tuesday.

Birla replaces Ravinder Takkar, who has stepped down from the role but will remain with the company as non-executive vice-chairman. Both appointments take effect on May 5, 2026, according to the statement.

The leadership change aims to address the financial and managerial challenges faced by the debt-laden Vodafone Idea while ensuring continuity in strategic oversight under Birla's seasoned leadership.
