The BJP-led Delhi government has unveiled an ambitious budget, significantly increasing capital expenditure to boost infrastructure under the 'Viksit Delhi' initiative. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described this step as a historic move, marking the first time in Delhi's budget history that capital expenditure has nearly doubled.

The budget for the financial year 2025-26 amounts to Rs 1 lakh crore, with a substantial portion funded through Rs 68,700 crore in tax revenue. Other sources include non-tax revenue, grants from the Centre, and more. The tax revenue is mainly driven by Rs 41,000 crore from GST collection, supplemented by VAT, stamp and registration fees, state excise, and vehicle taxes.

Gupta highlighted that this historic Rs 1 lakh crore budget includes Rs 28,115.48 crore in capital expenditure, aimed at enhancing infrastructure like roads, drainage, sewerage, health, and education. With a revenue surplus projected at Rs 9,661.31 crore, the government also introduced a 'Chief Minister Development Fund' to further support developmental projects.
