Railways Move Millions: A Record-Breaking Maha Kumbh Operation
The Indian Railways operated over 16,000 trains to facilitate the transportation of around five crore devotees to the Maha Kumbh. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav highlighted the collaborative efforts between various departments and substantial investment made in infrastructure, ensuring smooth travel during the event.

In an unprecedented logistical feat, the Indian Railways deployed more than 16,000 trains to transport approximately five crore pilgrims during the Maha Kumbh, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav.
Addressing the press, Vaishnav commended railway workers for significantly scaling up operations from the last Kumbh Mela in 2019, where only 4,000 trains were used. He emphasized that this large-scale operation was the result of meticulous planning and collaboration over two-and-a-half years.
Vaishnav revealed a substantial investment of Rs 5,000 crore by the railways, which included infrastructure enhancements such as 21 new flyovers, underpasses, and a new bridge over the River Ganga, ensuring seamless travel. The Maha Kumbh occurred from January 13 to February 26 in Prayagraj.
