Maharashtra recorded a remarkable increase in vehicle registrations in 2024, with over 28 lakh new vehicles, according to official data. This marks a 12.32% surge from the 25.63 lakh vehicles registered in 2023.

The rise primarily involved 20.50 lakh two-wheelers and around 4.50 lakh cars. Additional vehicles included over 1.20 lakh trucks, more than 9,800 public service buses, and 84,500 tractors.

Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) led the registration figures, opening new vehicle registration series almost fortnightly. Significant increases were also recorded at Wadala, Borivali, Tardeo, and Andheri RTOs in Mumbai.
