Indore is on the cusp of a major transport revolution with the imminent launch of its metro rail services. An official from the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) disclosed that the necessary documents are in the final stages of submission to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), a crucial step towards commencing operations.
Upon receiving the nod from the CMRS, commercial operations could commence as early as this month. Security arrangements will be assessed through depot and station inspections, according to the official. The initial segment to be operational is a 5.90 km corridor from Gandhi Nagar to station number three of the Super Corridor, which was trialed last September.
The project, with a total cost of Rs 7,500.80 crore, envisions a 31.50 km ring-shaped corridor enhancing city transit. The stations are designed for six-coach trains, initially operating with three coaches until demand increases. This ambitious venture is poised to transform Indore's intra-city travel landscape.
