In the lead-up to Maharashtra's assembly elections, private bus fares have surged, presenting a transportation challenge amid increased voter movement. With voters rushing to cast their ballots, travel agents report that prices on key routes have nearly doubled for November 19 and 20.
Harsh Kotak, a representative for private bus operators, noted that about 5,000 buses are expected to move voters across the state on the polling day. This traveling surge impacts routes connecting Mumbai to several regional areas, raising travel costs significantly.
While political parties and candidates have organized many of these bus trips, a notable portion of voters are independently making their way to cast votes. Some candidates reportedly assist by funding travel expenses, reflecting the crucial role of transport in the election process.
